We are Certified!

Hello everyone, Sorry about the length of time between the last post. We've been so busy with the holiday's that we've been neglecting this site a bit. Any way's I'll start off with recent stuff and then go back to the unanswered questions.

Sarah's last appointment with her OB was the 17th, it was supposed to be the 14th but with my grandfathers passing earlier that week we postponed so we could go be with my grandmother. Everything is fine, Morgan's heart rate was 142bpm which is good and the baby and mommy are in overall good health. Sarah has to start counting Morgan's movements as well, if she isn't moving allot that indicates that Sarah's stressing herself and may have to go on bed rest or a shorter work schedule. Sarah's starting to really feel the effects of being pregnant now, she's tired allot and achy all over especially after work. so I'm sure it's just a matter of time before she has to start cutting back her hours. Her next appointment is New Years Eve, and we have been asked to pre-register at the hospital at that time. I also have to meet with my work HR department to get some paperwork completed for paternity leave and insurance for Morgan, i guess the time is nearing.

Morgans been very active, she moves around allot, i still have trouble feeling her move some times when Sarah says i shouldn't but as long as Sarah feels her moving around I'm happy. You can definitely tell she's in there though and she's so big now she goes across both sides of Sarah's tummy now.

As far as the birthing classes, we have completed them even though we only went to 2 classes, our second class was postponed due to weather, and the third class we were in Branson. But we did attend the final class, which was very informative. We went on a tour of the hospital, although it's not the one we will deliver at the equipment and procedures are the same so it was nice to become familiarized with the room. Our first class was packed with 15+ couples, the last class had about 8 people total in it. Which Sarah and I thought was interesting seeing as people paid for these classes. But on the flip side we didn't learn a whole lot, it's mostly stuff you learn from watching baby story or reading expecting parents books/magazines. We received a diaper bag which is cool it's got allot of free samples and a cold storage compartment in it. Also since there were only 8 people and the instructor had allot of free goodies we got several bottles, nipples and pacifiers as well. Free stuff is always good! After the class the teach stayed with Sarah and I and we discussed some of the items we had missed then she gave us a certificate that we are now certified to have a child! :)

The Nursery is almost complete, Sarah's mother Joyce a.k.a G-Ma did an outline of the mural for Morgans room. And also started painting the mural, about 75% of the palm tree is done but the monkey and parakeet are not started yet. You can see the progress she made in the pictures I've uploaded.

The baby shower is set for the 19th of January and the invitations were sent out last week. I created the invitations myself which I'm really proud of. My sister Jennifer and her two youngest assisted Sarah and I in folding, packing and labeling the invitations which made it go so much faster. My oldest sister Jennifer is really looking forward to finally becoming an Aunt, as she's been a mother for 13 years now with no nieces or nephews. My younger sister Vicky will be an aunt 4 times over when Morgan comes, and I'm sure she's excited also.

We have a 3d/4d ultrasound on the 29th that we are very excited about we have not "seen" Morgan since about 22 weeks and that was a standard ultrasound. She will be just 3 days shy of 34 weeks when we have the next one. We spoke with a woman during our last birthing class who showed us pictures of her son taken with the 4D ultrasound at the same place we are going and they are amazing! We cannot wait! Being a guy couldn't decipher what i was looking at in the regular ultrasounds so hopefully I'll fair a bit well this time around. We are allowed 6 guests so both of my sisters will be there, Sarah's Parents and Sarah's best friend Amanda. As soon as we have pictures they will be online i promise!

Lastly we did chose my childhood pediatrician for Morgan, our meeting with him went very well and Sarah liked him allot. Plus he has Saturday hours and is less then 5 minutes from our house and knows my family history.

Anyways that's all the news that is news for now, have a Merry Christmas!

Birthing Classes

Sorry about the delay in posting, We've been busy with the upcoming holidays that we don't have a chance to update this as quickly as before.

On the 30th of November Sarah had her first every 2 week doctors appointment. Everything is good, she doesn't have gestational diabetes and because of her family history of blood clotting they did a few blood tests for something called Factor V we will get the results of that in a week or so. Also Morgan's heart rate was 135 and Sarah's tummy measured in at 28 weeks which she's actually 29 but the doctor said that was okay. Every day Sarah looks more and more pregnant it's amazing how fast things "grow". Her next appointment is the 14th, i wasn't able to attend her last one but i'll be there for this one. Here Dad went in my place.

On the 29th we started the first of 4 birthing classes at St. Joes Health Center. The first class was very informative i learned allot of the terminology that the doctors/nurses use during pregnancy so i won't be asking so many questions. Unfortinatly we registered for the birthing classes at the wrong St. Joes so we won't get a tour to see where to go and when to go there but during Sarah's next visit to her OB we will go up to labor and delivery and see if they have charts and graphs or something. I hate surprises and i want to know where i need to be and when i need to be there cause I'm sure it's going to be chaos when she does arrive and i don't want to add to the madness. We also had the joy of watching a birthing video and this isn't something you'd see on TLC or Discovery channel, there were no blurry bars to cover up things. I made it through that so i was pretty proud of myself. And i'm sure with all the commotion going on in the delivery room i won't have a chance to get sick. Well time to run, Sarah and I are going to the Mills to Baby's R Us to look at baby Travel Systems aka Strollers.

Love Ya,
-James/Sarah/Morgan

Coming Soon!

On the 21st Sarah goes into her 3rd Trimester of pregnancy, can you believe it?

On Friday the 16th we had another doctors appointment, the baby is doing fine, her heart rate is 140bpm which is good. And Sarah hasn't gained any weight since the last time we were there last month, the doctor said that is not an issue. Also she has to start going to doctors appointments every 2 weeks now until the last month then it's every week. Lastly she had to take another diabetes test that we are still awaiting the results from, she loves the juice they give her for that she just cannot get enough of it! :) Oh and the doctor told us that unless there are any complications there will be no more ultrasounds, kinda a bummer but poor momma and Morgan have had enough pokes and pictures.

A co-worker of mine runs an 3d/4d ultrasound studio (www.ultrasona.com) here in St. Charles, we are going to find out what it will cost to have a 4D done and if it's not too much we may do that otherwise we will wait until little Morgan arrives. Sarah has another appointment on Monday for another shot in the bum to follow up the one she had a few months ago. She's looking forward to that too, hopefully they will give her more glucose juice too!

Starting the 29th of November we start our child birthing classes. they will run for 4 weeks then in January we have a breast feeding class also, you have to have a child birthing class in order to receive an epidural or you have to watch a video while your in labor then you can get it. At least thats what we've been told.

Tuesday (20th) we are meeting with a pediatrician, he was my family's pediatrician when i was growing up and it turns out he practices out in Wentzville about 5 miles from our house which will be perfect! Only down side is that he is not affiliated with the hospital we want to deliver at and the only one him and Sarah's OB are jointly affiliated with is Barnes St. Peters which is a bit of a drive for us when we have a hospital less then 10 minutes away. Basically after Morgan comes and her and Sarah are discharged from the hospital by the on-staff pediatrician we will need to make an appointment with our actual pediatrician within a week or so. No big deal.

Oh also i took down the pictures of the baby's room and posted new and improved versions and a couple of pictures of me!! DADDY TO BE!

Thanks for stopping bye!

almost done

So the room is coming along great. We are almost done. We have a few touch ups to do and my mom is also going to help me paint a mural on the wall that has the changing table on it. I would like to put a palm tree with monkeys and some other animals on there. Other than that we have a rocker coming and we are going to move the swing into the living room when the time gets closer. I'm really happy how the room has turned out so far. I want to thank everyone who has helped. It means a lot to Morgan, Jamie and I.

As far as doctors appointments go I have another one on the 16Th of Nov. I have to get another diabetes test again :( and a check up. Then on Nov the 19Th I have to go back to get a remicade shot (my second one). Other than that everything else is fine. I went on sat and got my flu shot. I will give you a update as soon as I hear anything. Make sure u check out all the new pics.

Love ya all

Hiccup!

Tuesday (10/23/07) We had a follow up appointment to the amino last month. Her parents met us at the doctors office since the doctors were going to do another ultrasound.

After waiting about half an hour they finally took all of us back for the ultrasound. Apparently Morgan was a bouncing little girl on the way to the doctor but must have gotten bored in the waiting room like Sarah and I did and fell asleep.

By the time the ultrasound started Morgan didn't move once... except every 30 seconds she would twitch, the ultrasound tech said that she had hiccups. Sarah said she had felt motions like that before but never knew what they were. She also twitched her hand but that was about the extent of it, shes going to be a professional sleeper just like her daddy! :P

The ultrasound took a good 45 minutes, and the tech took lots of pictures as well as looked at many of Morgans organs (haha that rhymes). She has all 4 chambers of her heart, both kidnies, lungs, and all the other organs looked good too. They also did a blood flow thing that showed us her circulatory system as well as the umbilical cord and all of that looked good too.

Of course she wasn't being very cooperative because she was asleep but we did get a couple pictures over on the right hand side of your screen. They took a really good one of her nose and lip but didn't print that one for us. My father in law was amazed by the ultrasound, he hadn't seen one in 20 years and was just in awe by the entire thing.

Oh also they said that she weights 1lb 9oz's but couldn't measure her length because she's all bunched up. Aside from that not much else going on, I'm still waiting to feel that first definite nudge from her that Sarah thinks i should have felt by now... maybe i'm just trying too hard. :)

Later,
-James/Sarah/Morgan

Crib

On Tuesday (16th) we received the crib, Sarah and I put it together, it wasn't hard just confusing because the instructions were not that good. But it's together and it's very nice and I should have any problems putting Morgan in it. In other news Sarah had another appointment with her OB on the 19th, she measured her tummy and it's gotten bigger since the last time we were in to see her. Also took a measurement of Morgan's heart rate and it's 123bpm, which the doctor said was normal, i asked if it was okay that it's gone down some, and she said thats normal during the middle of pregnancy and that Morgan may have been sleeping also. And lastly Sarah's gained 8lbs since our last appointment, although shes not back up to her pre-pregnancy weight the doctor said she should only gain about 1lbs per week instead of 2 so told her to keep an eye on what she eats.

Finally they put her on a bunch more vitamins because her body doesn't process folic acids correctly, so she has to take 5 of each of these a day, folic acid, B-12, B-6 and a baby aspirin on top of her pre-natals. So she's an official pill popper now. :P

Morgans been a pretty active little girl, shes been running a muck allot lately according to mommy, I think i felt her on Tuesday but I'm not really sure if i did or not. At any rate I'm sure I'll feel her soon enough.

oh and on Tuesday (23rd) we've got an ultrasound, so we are pretty excited about that. it's just a follow up with the genetic councilor and to make sure that Morgan is still okay from the amino hopefully they will give us some pictures and I'll post those as soon as i can get them scanned. And we will update everyone, last time we saw her she was only 18 weeks, she will be 24 by Tuesday.

talk to everyone later.

Amazing...

After 3 long weeks, On Friday the 5th Sarah and I received the greatest news of our lives. It turns out that our little baby girl does NOT have OI... It is absolutely a miracle that we could be so blessed that she is healthy in that respect. We wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who had us in their thoughts and prayers over the last few months.

Now I guess we can get back to worrying about normal "new baby" stuff.. Oh in other news 2 of our 3 pieces of furniture for the baby room came in, the changing table and chest of drawer came in. The crib is on back order but shipped on the 4th so we should receive it at any time. I'll upload some pictures very soon.

Love ya,

All Done

Well the nursery is complete, Sarah and I decided yesterday evening to do the remaining tasks on our own so we could move all of the baby's stuff back into the room.

First we had to sand down the baseboards and repaint them, once they were dry we put the baseboard puzzle together and I nailed them back into place while Sarah followed behind with a paint can to cover the nails. While I was tacking the boarder into place she touched up a few area's around the room as well as repainted the window sill. There are some small gaps under the baseboards from the floor tile but I have putty to fill all that in later after the floor has some time to expand to where it will be.

We then moved everything back into the room as you can see from the pictures on the right. Now we are just waiting for the furniture... Oh and little Morgan of course.

Speaking of Furniture I checked on our order today from Simplybabyfurniture.com to see if it had shipped and saw that the price dropped almost $100, I spoke with a very helpful rep named Amanda, she is going to credit the difference back to my checking account and verified that we should have the furniture mid-next week, I'll keep everyone posted on how all of that turns out. But if you do order from them their online customer service is faster then calling them, just a bit of advice.

Oh and Sarah just picked up her new car. We traded in the Caddy and she got a 2007 Pontiac G6, I think it looks cooler then the CTS but it doesn't have all the fancy bells and whistles that the CTS had. But I'll let her elaborate on that.

See ya,
-James

The Nursery

Yesterday morning started off pretty early for Sarah and I. We both got up around 5am, she headed off to hit the garage sale scene with my Aunt Denise and my sister Vicky, while I stayed at home and continued to remove base board in the nursery.

Earlier in the week i started removing the baseboard but only managed to get one piece off. But with all the people coming over to help i thought at least i can get the baseboard off before they arrive. At about 9:15 Dave and Kathy arrived, I only had 1 piece of baseboard left at that point so i figured i had made pretty good progress.

Dave immediately started taking out the old light fixture and installing the ceiling fan, light kit, mounting bracket, and new control switch. While Kathy and i removed the final piece of baseboard. She also pulled up the carpet and under pad, and her and i removed all the staples in the floor from the under pad and nail strips used around the perimeter of the room to hold down the carpet. Dave wrapped up installing the ceiling fan just as Kathy and I finished pulling up all the nails and staples.

After that we taped the edges and remaining borders in the room. Sarah and my sister Vicky arrived just about then but they started sorting out all of Morgans baby clothing that mama has bought for her already, and let me just say there is ALLOT! While garage saleing Sarah/Vicky got some pretty cool stuff including of course more clothing, a Tupperware organizer drawer and a "fly net" thingy that goes over the crib which will look really neat, and "Girl up" the room a little bit. Dave then busted out his new sander and sanded off some of the baseboard gunk that was left on the walls. At this time Sarah's parents and Aunt and Uncle showed up to help. Lonnie Sarah's uncle brought a nice table saw with him which helped make the floor installation allot faster!

After that it was time to start priming but we all decided to leave messages on the floor for Morgan or whom ever owns the house when that floor gets pulled up. Once that was finished we needed to make a Lowe's run, and pick up a few things. Then we ordered pizza. While waiting on the pizza Kathy, Vicky and Chuck started priming the room.

Once that was all finished and dried, Lonnie stated that he used to be a painter and volunteered to paint the room. We all just watched in amazement while he painted the entire room in about 30 minutes and it looked AMAZING! And we all learned a few things about paint too.

Mean while in the garage, Sarah her mother Joyce and Aunt Gay started refinishing a shelf my Grandpa Smith had made for me when I was little. I'll post pictures of that soon but it looks great they really did a wonderful job of giving that shelf a whole new life.

Back in the nursery; Dave and Kathy finished painting the trim, corners and closet. About 10 minutes after that was done we started removing the painters tape and put the outlet covers back on. Then we let the room dry a bit more as the next part was installing the new pergo floor.
At about 5:30pm we all begin contemplating the best way to install the pergo around the door frame since it wouldn't fit completely underneath it. Just in the nick of time Vicky's husband Jamie our resident handy man showed up with all the tools and know how to install the new floor. Then with his guidance the floor installation actually began. Many saw cuts, dust, beer and extra pieces of pergo later the floor was done and looks amazing. it was now about 10:30pm and everyone was ready to go to bed.

Now it's Sunday morning the Rams are going to be on in a few hours and I'm back to where i started... i have to reinstall the baseboard... But i cannot complain one bit because that room looks great, everyone was extremely helpful and without them this room wouldn't have come together so well, so thanks to everyone that was here yesterday!

The furniture should arrive in the next week or so to finish off the room, and now Sarah finally has a place to put all those clothes!

-James

It's a.....

GIRL!
We found out this afternoon from the genetic counselor that we are expecting a little Morgan Elizabeth Schramm this February. We are very excited. Also all the chromosome testing came back good, so no Downs Syndrome or spina bifida. But we still have two more weeks until we have the results for the OI testing. But will post as soon as we know.

BTW the white crib set in the picture bar on the right is the set we ordered yesterday.

It's late and time for bed.

Love Ya,
-James, Sarah, and Baby Morgan.

UltraSound Pictures - 9/10/2007

Sorry it took so long to get these posted, had to get them scanned. Only a few more day's until we find out if it's a boy or girl, and the suspense is driving us crazy!! :)

In other news, work on the nursery has officially started. We hit Lowes Friday evening and bought a dark cherry pergo flooring, paint, ceiling fan and bracket, as well as a new remote and fan/light control for that room. It came out to just under $700 for everything which isn't that bad since they were running a sale on pergo 15% off until the end of the month, we bought 10 boxes of pergo and with the promotion got basically a box and a half for free. But we will probably only need 9 boxes.

Yesterday afternoon I started removing the baseboard in that room, and Paco got into the attic and located the ceiling fixture for the light and it's NOT rated for a ceiling fan so he just put the bracket up in the attic next to the fixed to be installed next weekend or when ever.

Next Saturday we will start actually remodeling the room. It's a pretty big project so it will probably span many weekends but that's okay we've got plenty of time.

Oh and before I forget, we've got it narrowed down to 2 different sets of baby furniture which we will probably order in the next week or so. Check them out:

http://www.simplybabyfurniture.com/0113093253.html

http://www.simplybabyfurniture.com/011408505153.html

They are both pretty similar in price but the first link will probably end up being the winner because we can cut a few inch's off the legs of the changing table and I'll be able to use it. While the other set doesn't look as though we can do that.

Thats all for now, i'll post some pictures next weekend when the work really gets going on the baby room, and as soon as we know if it's a boy or a girl so stay tuned!!

10 more days

So today i had to get a amnio done. My appointment was at 930 am. My parent and Jamie's parents were there. We had to fill out paperwork and sign all kinds of things. Then the genetic counselor that we have been talking to(KAY)came and we talked to her for a while about our family's health history's. She also told us about the test and explained how it work.

She also informed me that they did a blood test on me and it came back and told me that I have "o-" blood type. i didnt know this but it is a rare type. she also told us that there is a shot that i have to go get done called Rhophylac. They give it to all mothers with 0- blood type. She explained to us that if my baby and I were to transfer blood that since the baby is going to have a positive blood type more that likely because Jamie is positive and positive it more dominant than my antibodies could either make my baby anemic or my body would try to get rid of the foreign blood and attack the baby's blood. So they give you this shoot to prevent that.

neway so me my mom and Jamie go back and they start the test. first they just have a nurse come back and give me an ultra sound so that they can measure the baby's arm, legs and head. By doing this it can give them an idea if the baby has OI. If the baby does then more the likely the the arms and leg bones will be smaller, but after all the measurements the baby's bones were exactly 18 weeks developed which is GREAT! So they did that
and also told me that i am 18 weeks along and they MAY be able to tell us the sex. The nurse was trying to get the baby to move to where they can see the sex but the baby was being stubborn LIKE HIS DAD HAHAHAHAH :). the baby was sitting on its side and would not move its legs except to kick me and the nurse pointed it out. the baby was also waving at us. so that was kinda cool. The nurse told us that was not able to get a good look to tell us what it was. But the good news is that they DNA that they took can tell us the sex we just have to wait 10 LONG days :(. its not to bad but i was really hoping to find out today but i guess i can wait.

so then the nurse bring us out some pictures and told us to wait a sec so she could go get the doctor. The doctor came back and started the test. they put iodine on stomach and then inserted a really skinny long needle in right above your belly button. They said that there would be cramping. The needle part was not what hurt for me it was the cramping. lucky the baby was not moving around to much. In fact it moved away from the needle. GOOD BABY :) hahaha it only took like 5 mins to do the test. they took like 5 sample of the fluid. then it was over. It really wasn't to bad.

they told me to take it easy today and Tuesday. I cant lift anything more the 10 pounds. so I'm off work Tuesday. they said side effects could be like soreness where the needle was, cramping. so i had to go to my other doctors at 1 o'clock to get that shot and give blood. Great more needles. so we go there and they are closed until 1 for lunch and there where like 10 people already waiting for the doctors. By the time we got into the waiting room it was full. so we wait for a little while for them to call us back and is was funny cause the first couple of names they called were Sarah's. and every time i though it was me and it wasn't. so the nurse gave me the shot in the butt which stung a little. and then another nurse came in and took my blood. then they where done.

then we just went home and hung out for a while and i took a nap it was nice. so i just wanted to keep u guys informed. we should hear about the sex of the baby in 10 day or less and then the rest of the results in 2to3 weeks. we will let you guys know as soon as we hear something.

thanks to all the people who called today to check up on us. I'm of a little sore but OK. love ya all and have a great week. :)

Pictures

I've uploaded the pictures Sarah discussed in the previous post. it's of the now semi-empty baby's room. As well as the theme we decided on yesterday. We are going to do a jungle theme in the room. since thats gender neutral and it looks really cool, plus there is an entire line of jungle themed items. Plus the Jungle theme line had a highchair that was height adjustable so i can set it at any height i want to make it easier for me the put the baby in. None of the other themes/chairs we saw had that feature so that was a big plus for us also.

We also registered yesterday at Baby's 'R Us and Wal-Mart. We spent hours at Baby's 'R Us there is so much stuff there, wholly smokes! You can find our Baby's 'R Us registry Here our registry number is 55461356.

For our Wal-Mart Registry go Here and type either mine or Sarah's names in the Baby Registry fields. We didn't find as much stuff at Wal-mart, but we did find a nice flat panel TV with a built in DVD player for the baby's room that we figured what the heck and scanned it anyways.

We also went to Once Upon a Child yesterday and bought a few more baby outfits. Anyways time to run, got to hit homedepot and get the items to refinish that shelf. Thanks

long update

We had another doctors appointment on Monday the 20th. They got back Jamie's blood work and they found the gene that they needed to identify in the baby. I have a amino set up for Sept 10th in the morning. I'm a little scared about that but the more people I talk to have said that they have had it done. they say that it sound a lot worse then it is. So we will see how it goes..

So I started a new job on Tuesday the 21st at kids r kids. Its in the infant room and I LOVE it!! I get to hold baby's all day. The first couple of days have been hard. My back hurts and i'm really tired but i'm ok. I work from 11am- 6pm. Its nice cause I get to sleep in. The teachers and parents there are really nice. The place is brand new it just opened the end of may. They are preschool based center and its huge. They have a full size gym and big rooms.

Sorry back to the doctors appointment... It was an easy appointment. We got to hear the heart beat for the first time. That was cool. It was about 147 beats per minute. Dr Sullivan is really nice and she said that everything is fine. I can go back to taking my prenatal vitamin's. My morning sickness has gone away for the most part. I have some days where i'm not felling that great but thats normal. We set up another appointment for after the amino in late sept.

Last weekend we decided that we where going to clean out the baby's room and start deciding what we are going to do in there . We are not going to paint until we find out what we are having. We did decide that we are going to combine the computer room with the guest room. My parents and brother come over to help us. We cleaned the computer room out and moved a couple of the desks downstairs and then moved the bed and furniture in there. It came out nice. The baby's room is empty now, my sister gave a crib to us that they had been given but didn't need and we TRIED putting it together but its missing some pieces. OHHH well. we are going to buy a white set to go in there. There was a book shelf in the computer room that Jamie's Grandpa Smith (who he's named after) gave him when he was a child, that we thought that we could refinish/paint white and put in the baby's room. We also decided that we are going to take the carpet out in the baby's room and put Pergo flooring. We still have a while before we do that but we thought that it would look nicer and it would be easier to clean and stuff.

We have decided on a girls name. Morgan Elizabeth Schramm.... :) We have not decided on a boy's name yet but Jamie would like to do a James Gary Schramm Jr. but we haven't decided on that yet. We received a really cute card in the mail from Jamie's aunt and uncle, Randy and Shirley. Just wanted to say thanks to them. It was very thoughtful.

we will keep you updated on how thing go. please leave a comment if u would like. we are going to put some pictures of the room so far. hope everyone is doing well and thanks to every one who has helped us in the last couple of weeks.

love ya all
Sarah, Jamie and Baby :P

No photo shoot - 7/23/2007

Sorry about the delay in posting this but here is an update from our last appointment on the 23rd of July.

First Sarah and I decided to get my blood drawn before her appointment at 11:15. The blood work on me was set to be done at a St. Johns Urgent Care center off of Highway K. Not paying any attention we pulled into the Barnes Urgent Care center, and when I told the receptionist I was there for blood work she looked at me and said "we don't do that here" she then looked at the paperwork I had with me and said I needed to go about 2 miles further down highway K. Eventually we ended up in the correct location and after waiting about 30 minutes I got my blood work done. The nurse asked me if I had ever had my blood drawn before and all I could do was laugh, and showed her my battle scares.. :) Any who we should have the results back in 2-3 weeks.

After that we had about 25 minutes to spare until Sarah's appointment at St. Joes West, so we went straight there, hit the cafeteria which must have just closed because all they had were drinks and snack foods but she was getting hungry and trust me you don't want to leave a pregnant lady hungry very long.

Finally we got in to see the doctor. She is the same one that delivered my sisters last child. the other 2 appointments we had were with other doctors. This is by design so you can pick the one you feel most comfortable with and in the event your doctor is not available once the baby decides to show up then at least your familiar with the others.

Sarah has been having some pretty severe morning sickness which seems to be caused by her prenatal vitamins so Dr. Sullivan decided to take Sarah off of them and put her on Flintstone vitamins, Sarah's been looking for a reason to take Flintstone vitamins for like 15 years so she was very happy about this. She will go back on her regular prenatal vitamins when she gets into the second tri-mester on 8/11/2007. Aside from that they tried to listen for the heartbeat but Sarah's was too overpowering and at only 10.5 weeks it can be difficult to hear but the doctor did not seem concerned. Also Sarah lost 25 pounds since her last visit but once again Dr. Sullivan was not concerned, this was probably due to Sarah no longer drinking soda or being able to keep anything down due to the morning sickness. We will just keep an eye on that going forward.

Dr. Sullivan asked me about my family history and was very interested in my OI. She also asked after the appointment was over if she could work with us going forward since she knows the entire situation, she was very interested in seeing us through the end of the pregnancy. Which to me is great that someone is willing to take on our situation as eagerly as she was. But ultimately Sarah will make that decision since she has to feel the most comfortable with the Doctor. Our next appointment is August 20th 2007, She will be a little over 14 weeks which is when they will probably do the Amniocentesis on her/baby at that time also. Then a few weeks later we will know allot about our baby, including the sex, and since they are looking at the baby's DNA/Genes it's never wrong.

After the appointment we went with Sarah's parents to the Science Center, the IHOP for dinner. After that we went to Burlington Coat Factory at the Mills. Sarah fell in love with a little girls crib set. It combined Sarah's two favorite things, Butterflies and purple.. So as you can image she's now hoping for a girl. :) BTW the pictures should be visible on the left side of the screen in the box titled "Flickr".

Great News..

Sarah and I have been speaking with a Genetic Councilor at St. Johns hospital since we found out she was pregnant. So we would have an understanding of the risks involved regarding the baby having OI. Well there is a test they can do to check if the baby does or doesn't have it. But before they can check the baby, they have to check me. Which involves a blood test, then having that sent off to a lab in either Washington State or New Orleans to narrow down which of my genes are causing my version of OI, if they find the gene then they can do an Amniocentesis on the baby and tell us if the baby has OI and which type if any.

Well we found out today that our insurance is going to pay for the test on me which is about $1800, and they normally pay for the Amniocentesis on the baby anyways. Which to us is great news, it will not change anything but will help us plan one way or the other..

Next step is I'll have my blood drawn on Monday (July 23rd) at a St. Johns office in O'Fallon. In about 2-3 weeks we will receive the results as to wither they found the gene in me (there is a 30% chance they will NOT find it). At 15-16 weeks Sarah and the baby will have the Amniocentesis done and a few weeks later we will know one way or the other.

So far it's been a very interesting ride, Also Monday is our next appointment, hopefully it will be another photo shoot of our little miracle.

doctors appointment

So we had our first doctors appointment this morning..... We really didn't find out much. I just took a pee test and had my check up and everything looks good. I'm still not sure how far along I am yet. They set up another appointment for next Monday the 25Th for a ultra sound and blood work and also my diabetes testing..... Not really looking forward to that one :( but it will be OK.....

But other than that everything is fine... I have had some morning sickness but not to bad so far. I have just been so tired.. From what i hear its not going to get any better... I will keep everyone updated if we hear anything else.
